Tomorrow Land by Mari Mancusi

Summary:
Can true love survive the end of the world?

Imagine finding your first love, only to be ripped apart by the apocalypse. Peyton Anderson will never forget the day she was forced to make a choice--between her family--and Chris Parker, the boy she'd given her heart. And now, four years later, as she steps from the fallout shelter and into a dead and broken world, he's the only thing on her mind.

All Chris "Chase" Parker wanted was to take Peyton away and keep her safe from harm. But he waited for hours in the rain on judgment day and she never showed--breaking his heart without ever telling him why.

Now the two of them have been thrown together once again, reluctant chaperones of a group of orphan children in a post-apocalyptic world where the dead still walk...and feed. As they begin their pilgrimage to the last human outpost on Earth, can they find a way to let go of old hurts and find the love they lost--all the while attempting to save what's left of the human race?

Previously published in paperback as RAZOR GIRL.

Popular girl with hottie boyfriend – Check

Mari Mancusi has perfectly timed the re-release of The Razer Girl now known as the Tomorrow Land. The sci-fi genre has really exploded on the YA scene as response to today's society and YA readers are really spoiled for choice. This story is told by two main characters in alternative years 2030 and 2034 as they give their version of events that has lead to the post apocalyptic world in 2034.

Peyton is the popular girl whose father is the town mad scientist who’s opinions are well know. Peyton is only accepted to due her status of being a cheerleader and dating the hottest boy in the school. But it all falls apart after she stumbles onto a disease that is ravaging the world and turning people into zombies. Chris is the geeky boy who lives down the street, who has crash on Peyton and becomes close to her when they discover the truth.

They fall in love and then wham, Peyton is forced to follow her father’s plan and is force into a bunker for four years while Chris becomes Chase and with his old brother Tank and they have for four years survived by various means and by chance Chase finds her while looking for something.

This book is definitely more upper YA audience, there are themes in there I won’t allow a twelve year old to read unless they were very mature and their parent approved of it. It does remind of The Hunger Games in a couple of the chapters (I haven’t read it but I know what the book's about) and it is an interesting read. I have to give this book 4 stars.
