Set in Victorian times, Olivia Brightmore is the new teacher at small school in country England but it's no ordinary school. After the death of her husband, Olivia has come to teach at a magic school, where the students have special abilities. She hopes to have a fresh start at the school, but she hits a hurdle with Gareth St. John , the resident doctor who knows her past is as fake as a fortune teller. Because he's never been in the presence of magic, he thinks that she's out to scam his friends Simon and Joan Grenville. She soon is proving to herself and Gareth that she has talents but Garth remains aloof with her.

The book has an interesting concept that made me draw a comparisons to X-men. Most of the children have interesting abilities and the adults in house discounting the servants have abilities or study magic. The concept is something different and I must give points for that; however it seemed to be lacking in the plot, in terms of the paranormal side, there are scenes in there but they don’t highlight the paranormal angle in the book. I have to give this book 3.5 stars.
