Packing Heat by Kele Moon

Summary:

Dark and brooding firefighter Brad Archer has spent months denying his attraction to his roommate, Police Officer Gavin Connolly. Gavin is just the kind of guy he likes, tall, tough and buff enough to actually handle Brad’s big size and rough nature.

To hide his real feelings Brad holds the handsome, seemingly straight cop at arms length until a shooting at work leaves Gavin a little too vulnerable to ignore. What starts out as a simple attempt to comfort his roommate blows up into something wild, sexual and wholly unexpected when Gavin wants more from Brad than a strong, firefighter’s shoulder to lean.

The sexual magnetism drawing the two of them together forces secrets to be revealed and though the sex is mind-blowing it may not be worth weathering the storms their relationship could stir up. In order to protect him Brad realizes he loves Gavin enough to let him go. The problem is—The stubborn cop may not let him.

Gavin and Brad are roommates. The story begins with a drinking night at their apartment. Gavin is a cop and he is having a pity party at his own expense, which is related to his work. Gavin shot a nineteen year  old kid and he can't forget the fact the boy was so young. Despite the pain, Gavin is happily drunk at the moment and chatty. Gavin is glad he was the one Brad rented his room to, because even if Brad is an openly gay firefighter, he is the best friend to Gavin. As for Brad, Gavin is stunningly HOT, and this is the main reason he keeps his distance from Gavin. Gavin is "fucking" handsome in Brad's mind.

Brad is thirty eight years old and has learned to separate his private and professional life. He knows that he is dealing with a deeply-in-denial  roommate. Gavin wants to forget everything and he goes onto Brad's lap  and begs him to have sex with him, to take him hard and fast. I admit,  this scene is more than hot, more than that, I really liked when Brad denied himself. He doesn’t take Gavin when he is in his drunken state  and in denial of being gay. Brad knows he could easily fall in love with  Gavin and he hates that Gavin os deeply in denial about who he is and  what he wants.

The next morning Gavin wakes up to his phone  ringing. He is ashamed of himself as his memory of the previous night floods into his consciousness.  Gavin has lusted after Brad for two years before he saw Brad's ad for a roommate.

I really enjoyed how Gavin planned to get Brad’s attention.

"Enough trips to the fridge with a towel wrapped around his  hips should have earned him attention at some point. Except it didn't earn him attention."

The next part was cool; Brad comes home from his shift and decides to tell Gavin he has to find a new apartment. And then at LAST those two have a sincere talk about their own feelings and  needs. What happens next is hot, hot sex between Gavin and Brad. But I didn't like the sentence at the start of chapter four. "Gavin wasn't  really sure how he got here." What kind of idiotic sentence is that. Sure he knew how he got on Brad’s bed, he asked for it! Jeez ...

I'm glad Gavin had the guts to be truthful to his partner Charlie at work and didn't deny his involvement with Brad. This would really suck at this point. Their chat at work is funny and real, I felt their friendship. Oh and that HOT sex scene after Gavin and Brad's big fight was amazing! The way Gavin reacted to Brad's cold words was awesome. The Irish in Gavin won. The ending with an epilogue was like a complete and amazing story all onto its own. I loved it all. This story is worth the 4 stars I’m giving it
