Reghan Connor knows that there are no heroes. Her father left her when she was little and the man she thought she would share her live with confessed that he wasn’t leaving the wife Reghan knew nothing about.
There are no heroes, she wanted to tell her friend. Heroes and knights in shining armor were for kids’ fairy tales. In real life, people never lived up to expectations. That’s why they called it real life.Five months after she uncovered the truth about NOPD Detective Devereux Gautier in her TV news program, The Real Story, she has to see him again.
From his perspective, they’d met three times. The first time they’d flirted, the second time they’d kissed, and the third time she’d ripped open the secrets of his past and torn a hole in his life.
Someone is killing his kids, the ones from Thibaud Johnson Center for Homeless Teens – the Center he built in honor of the man who saved him many years ago – and she may have information that could help Gautier find the assassin.
Reghan knew that Fontenot, the man she interviewed five months ago, had something going on with the dead teenagers. The way he spoke, the words he used, were proof of it.
Suspense lovers, this is your book. You can’t miss it. I love all the characters, especially Dev. He is a real hero, Reghan realizes it by the end of the book.
Although he had a horrible childhood. His stepfather tried to kill Dev after killing his sister and when Dev fight back with a baseball bat, Dev kills him and then lives two years on the street. By the age of fourteen, he finds a savior. Thibaud Johnson changed his name and helped him to build a better live.

Fontenot was a psychopath who had kidnapped and faked the death of Dana Maxwell, the wife of Dev Gautier’s ex-partner, Cody Maxwell. He’d spent the entire time raving about his plan for revenge against Devereux Gautier, whom he blamed for putting him in prison. After three youth turn up dead, Reghan's house is vandalized and she is attacked. She realizes that Fontenot has lost the control over the assassin; he never wanted Reghan to be hurt or attacked. And her visit to the prison where he was held, after another murder, confirms her beliefs. Will Dev discover the assassin’s identity in time to save Reghan’s live? Or he’ll lose the love of his live?

Here are two quotes of him I love:“You already are. Dev, you’re a hero, a real live hero. These kids worship you.”“Maybe someday, I can be the man he thought I could be.”
“You fill a place inside me … that’s been empty a very long time. I don’t … ever want to be empty again.”“Okay, I’ll pack for you,” he said reasonably. “Where do you keep your underwear?”
The suspense was perfectly created, I never found out who the criminal was until the end. Which leads me to a question, who was the one who attacked Reghan? Ms Mallory Kane, if you read this, could you tell me if it was the accomplice who attacked her? Now my rating … 5 very deserved stars.
