Country Mouse by Amy Lane & Aleksandr Voinov

Summary:
Owen may be a bit of a country mouse, but he’s loving his vacation in London. After a long day playing tourist, he’s on the hunt for some cheap beer and a good burger. Instead he finds a man hunting him, an arrogant prick with only one thing on the brain: the kind of meat that doesn’t come on a bun. Eighty-hour weeks at a trading desk don’t leave Malcolm Kavanagh much time for meaningful relationships. Besides, in his world, everything’s a competition—even sex. When his newest one-night-sub fails to show, Malcolm sets his sights on the pretty young Yank on the bar stool beside him. Owen’s all for an adventure with a native, but he’s not the pushover Malcolm thinks he is, and Malcolm’s not as shallow as he tries to be. They both soon learn that nothing's too intimate to share with a stranger, and the strangest things happen when two people share the most important pieces of their hearts.

Amy Lane is an auto-buy author for me; I love her writing style and love the angst she builds in most of her stories. I've read pretty much all of her books and Keeping Promise Rock is probably my all-time favorite book. But prior to reading Country Mouse, I hadn't read a lot by the co-author Aleksandr Voinov, so I wasn't sure if I would end up liking this as much as most other books penned solely by Amy Lane. I am very happy to report that my concerns were unfounded; I ended up loving this story and thought that Aleksandr and Amy's styles flowed so well together that it was hard to tell the story was written by two authors (which I think is the goal of co-writing but is often not achieved). I thought it was kind of funny that this story had so little angst to it when I've read many reviews that state both authors are known for their angst levels.

At the start of Country Mouse, Malcolm Kavanagh, a rich hard working citified guy, is supposed to be hooking up with a potential sub for the night at some crappy bar. When his would-be sub is late he ends up hitting on Owen Watson, a small town guy (hence the "Country Mouse" title of the book) who is on vacation with his ex-girlfriend / friend but has also been blown off by her for the night so she could go meet up with another guy.

At the start of the story I found Malcolm came off as a huge jerk with his posturing towards Owen and I didn't start out liking him but he grew on me over the rest of the story and I thought it was easy to understand why he acted the way he did. Owen, on the other hand, I fell in love with from the very beginning and just wanted to take him home and have him as my new best friend.

This story was way too short for my liking and I really hope that the authors consider writing a sequel that shows what happens next for Malcolm and Owen. I'm giving this story five stars and highly recommend it.
