When the alpha of the local pack is arrested, the pack members want Harry Smith to replace him, although he doesn’t want to be part of the pack. Harry prefers to be with the grannies.
I laughed out loud when I read about the insistent declaration of the feminine alpha of the pack that they want him, they voted and the chose him, so Harry WILL be the masculine alpha and no other. They won’t take NO for answer. I love this scene and here are some samples… isn’t it amusing?

“I’m begging. You know what we’ve got to choose from, and they haven’t got…what you’ve got.”
“It’s called brains.” Harry’s voice was more of a growl than intended. “All sorts of people have them.”

“You’re the one we want. We voted.”
While the touch of democracy in the pack surprised him, it didn’t sway him.
“Import somebody.”

“You don’t want me.”
“Yes, we do,” Bianca insisted.
“Why?” He might have the right DNA, but there was nothing else right about him.
“We voted.”
“As a United States citizen, I have a vote too. It’s no. If you don’t mind, I prefer to eat alone.
“We’ve got time. We’ll wait.”

So Harry decides that he'll have to run from the pack territory.

Harry’s best choice seemed to be humoring Bianca long enough to locate a small vehicle with a large engine. Maybe that Porsche he’d almost finished.
Discretion, valor, cowardice—who cared as long as it worked and nobody got hurt?

And here, at this point, he finds out that his best friend Sandie, his best friend in the world and a granny, is young June Travis and a witch. And that she will try anything to help him. Still, while the attraction between them rises, June has to be careful; if she sleeps with him, she might lose her power. And they have to fight Harry’s old enemy.

I love books that have some humor; I think it gives some flavor to the story. And this story has a wonderful one.

The story line had some unique ideas; the dialogue was amazing; the characters deep and so real I swear they seem alive; and the action so well written that kept me under its spell until the end. 5 stars for this outstanding book, you shouldn’t miss it.
